Gumptionology 101

You didn’t take that class did you? Probably because it wasn’t offered. It should have been.

I’m talking about diligence. Stick-to-it-iveness. Endurance. Tireless work. Okay, never mind the tireless part because you WILL get tired. Let’s talk perseverance instead.

I’ve built more than a few businesses and it irks me when people imply the journey will be easy. Are the rewards indescribably wonderful? Yes. Are the long days and sleepless nights worth it? I definitely think so. Is it a road carpeted with flowers and ease? Not by a long shot.

If you’re going to be a leader of ANYTHING, it’s going to take gumption. Gumption means being disciplined one day at a time.

“A person filled with gumption doesn’t sit around dissipating and stewing about things. He’s at the front of the train of his own awareness, watching to see what’s up the track and meeting it when it comes.” -Robert Pirsig

There’s never been another day exactly like today and never will be again. At midnight it will end, quietly, suddenly, totally. Forever. But the hours between now and then are filled with opportunities and possibilities.

Gumption is the fuel for your activity today. Fill ‘er up and let’s hit the road.
