Do You Still Have It…The Awesome?

I read a blog post last week that I can’t get out of my head.  The words of Melissa Wardy, owner of Pigtail Pals,  leapt off the page and into my heart and stuck in mind. As I went back to re-read it, I was struck by how loudly the message had resounded with so many, to the point that her post went “viral”. (Every bloggers dream but something that is usually not planned by an ad agency.)  In the past 6 weeks, almost half a million people have visited her blog. Here’s the heart of Melissa’s post (which was inspired by her daughter) :

There was a time when you were five years old,
and you woke up full of awesome.

You knew you were awesome.

You loved yourself.

You thought you were beautiful,
even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers.

You loved your body, and the things it could do.

You thought you were strong.

You knew you were smart.

Do you still have it?
The awesome.

Did someone take it from you?
Did you let them?
Did you hand it over, because someone told you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough?
Why the heck would you listen to them?
Did you consider they might be full of it?

Awesome is something you choose. Our kids do it naturally, they can’t help themselves. It is the choice to hold your face up to the world, knowing you are beautiful inside and out, and feel the light that shines out of you. Somewhere along the way, some people stop looking, stop choosing to be awesome. It doesn’t matter what your story is, if it is happy or painful…the time to be awesome is now.

Make that choice for yourself. Tell your demons to shut it. If you can’t remember feeling awesome, then make new memories. Start today. Start now.

Melissa is wisely offering “Full of Awesome” T-shirts HERE . I don’t know her but I want to. Have an awesome week!

You were born awesome, you grew up awesome, you grew old awesome, and you’re still full of awesome. (Sometimes you’re full of prunes – but most times – awesome!) But don’t get the big head just because you’re so awesome. It really isn’t you – you know? You are awesome because He, Who alone is awesome, shines through you. May He pour out His awesome blessings upon you today.

It puts a huge smile on my face to hear from you. We can truly say we are eyewitnesses of His Majesty, can’t we?!
Thanks for letting me know you came by.
You are an awesome teacher. I carry wisdom as testimony to that!
